How to Adjust Your Skincare and Scalp Routine for Autumn
Cooler days. Softer layers. Small changes to the care you already know.
The sweater comes out of the drawer. The bathroom window stays shut. After you wash your face, you reach for moisturizer a little sooner than you did in August.
Start there, with what you've actually noticed. Maybe your cheeks feel tight after cleansing. Maybe everything still feels fine. Either answer is useful. A new month on the calendar doesn't mean you need a new shelf of products.
Notice before you add
Cool, dry air outside and heating inside can both leave skin feeling drier. The change that helps is often smaller than you'd expect.
Pay attention to when your skin feels different. Right after washing? Mid-afternoon? After a long, hot shower? Then change one thing at a time, so you can tell what made the difference.
Start with how you cleanse
A hot shower is tempting on a cold morning. Warm water and shorter showers are gentler on dry skin.
Use a gentle cleanser and pat your face dry. If washing leaves your skin uncomfortable, look at the cleanser and the water temperature before you add another product.
Keep your face routine in order
If PranaGlow's face products already suit your skin, keep the order simple: Soothing Face Cleanser, then Luminous Face Serum, then Nourishing Face Moisturizer.
Use the amount directed on each product. More product won't make your skin more comfortable, and autumn doesn't mean every layer needs to get heavier.
New to any of them? Introduce one at a time so you can see how your skin responds.
In the morning, keep sunscreen in the routine. Cooler weather doesn't change the need for broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, along with shade and protective clothing.
Keep scalp care tied to wash day
Your scalp ritual has its own place in the week.
Before you wash, apply a small amount of Root + Scalp Strength Oil to your scalp and massage it in with your fingertips. Follow the directions for how long to leave it on, then shampoo.
Pick a wash day when you have a few extra minutes. Keep the oil with your haircare so it stays part of that ritual.
If itching, soreness, or flaking keeps coming back, talk to a dermatologist instead of adding more steps.
Keep what works
An autumn routine should fit an ordinary morning. Keep the cleanser you like. Make time for moisturizer. Check how your skin feels before you buy anything new. If dryness lasts or becomes painful, see a dermatologist.
Start with the one part of your routine that needs attention and build from there.
